Scouting

The Aim of The Scout Association is to promote the development of young people in achieving their full physical, intellectual, social and spiritual potentials, as responsible citizens and as members of their local, national and international communities.
From its inception Scouting has had a simple and positive Promise that is required to be made by all its members. Together with the Scout Law, this gives a distinctive ethos to the practices of the movement and acts as a bond with Scouts in other countries.

Putting this all into practice

To put these aims and objectives into practice we run a balanced program which encourages both self-reliance and team building. Hence all activities are firstly patrol based, then Troop based.
The program is designed to provide a series of enjoyable activities both outdoors and in the hall, that will without the Scout being particularly aware of it, be contributing towards these aims.

History

On 1 August 1907, Scoutings Founder Robert Baden-Powell blew his Kudu horn on Brownsea Island at 08:00 to open the worlds first Scout camp. Soon thereafter, Scouting began to quickly spread around the world and today there are 28 million Scouts worldwide, in 216 countries and territories.

100 years to the day, on 1 August 2007 at 08:00, every Scout, from every country, marked the Centenary and look to the past, present and, most importantly, the future of Scouting.
